I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker who works with adults. I work with clients who have ongoing challenges related to anxiety, body image, gender identity/expression/sexuality, grief, pregnancy/postpartum, relationships, and self-esteem. My goal is to help you connect intentionally with your emotions in a safe and empowering space.

My Approach to Therapy

I bring warmth and a non-judgmental presence to sessions. As a therapist, I can:

  • Help you coexist with complex emotions

  • Create space to care for yourself and prioritize your needs

  • Identify personal goals as you work towards improving your quality of life

  • Provide tools and information that will help you cope with challenges and maximize your strengths

I enjoy helping people feel empowered while improving their mental health. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is watching you embrace your strengths, experience meaningful progress through healing, and flourish in your relationships and communities.

Sessions with me will provide you with the space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals so that you’ll be able to gain clarity and meaningful connection with your mental health. It’s important to me to provide a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself.

At Essential Insights Counseling Center, there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to therapy.

My approach to therapy prioritizes the individual and is a collaborative process between client and therapist. I utilize different types of therapy that match your primary areas of concern, and therapeutic goals.

“Radical self-love demands that we see ourselves and others in the fullness of our complexities and intersections and that we work to create space for those intersections.”

― Sonya Renee Taylor, The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love

As a Therapist, I Embrace the Following Philosophies:

  • Mental health care should be accessible, and I will do everything in my power to make it so.

  • I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole - their mind, body, and spirit.

  • You are the foremost expert on yourself. Therapy is a collaborative process where the client is in charge, and the therapist is a supportive guide.

  • I believe that you can make changes that align with your values and improve your quality of life.

  • No progress is too small. I believe it is important to embrace self-compassion and encourage celebration of every personal victory.

My Professional Background

I received my Bachelor of Science from UMass Amherst in Communication Disorders. During this time, I co- facilitated educational workshops for students and community about sexual health, identity, intimate partner violence, and safety resources through the Center for Women and Community. This work fostered my passion for the field of social work and lead me to pursue further education and training to continue serving individuals and communities.

I received my Master’s in Social Work from Rhode Island College where I focused my elective studies on the U.S. healthcare system, and how it intersects with and exacerbates other systems of oppression. The driving force behind my elected concentration was my fundamental belief that comprehensive, inclusive, and gender affirming mental healthcare is an imperative resource that is disproportionately inaccessible to marginalized communities. My advanced clinical placement at Lifespan Physician Group OBGYN, in Providence Rhode Island allowed me to work with a diverse population of patients on management of symptoms, self-advocacy, and access to comprehensive resources. It also provided substantial training in diagnosis and treatment of perinatal mood disorders. I have worked in telehealth, in-person, and integrated medical settings.

Amanda is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), which means that she has completed all of the required education and training for her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and has passed a national licensing exam. She is now completing her required 2 years of supervised work experience, after which she’ll be eligible to apply for licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and she could then practice independently. During her supervised work experience at Essential Insights Counseling Center, Amanda is being supervised by Meaghan Decker, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
